I wouldn't be surprised if S3's settlement with CRUS includes ownership of some of those patents since it seems CRUS wants to get out of the graphics business and the Intel deal isn't going to go through and S3 has the cash.

S3 Buying Rendition or NVidia?

On a speculative tangent, S3 could consider buying Rendition or NVidia. Both are privately held fabless companies, and have reasonable 2D/3D accelerating chipsets - Rendition's Verite 2x00 and NVidia's RIVA 128. Although both are preparing to go IPO eventually, they should be cheaper to acquire than any other publicly traded competitors. What do you guys think?
