Hitachi, Intel to develop PC for TV viewing--paper Reuters Story - January 08, 1998 18:50 %JP %ELC %US %ELI %PUB %DPR %APL 6501.T INTC V%REUTER P%RTR TOKYO, Jan 9 (Reuters) - Hitachi Ltd and Intel Corp will jointly develop technology for a personal computer system that can be used to view ground-based digital TV programmes, the Japanese economic daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun said on Friday. Hitachi spokesmen were not immediately available to comment on the report. The new system will be based on Hitachi's decoding technology, the paper reported. Hitachi's decoding system accepts all currently used protocols for ground-based digital broadcasts. The two companies hope the project will lead to an industry standard for digital broadcasting, the paper said.
