It is what Toshiba did for Sandisk and what they have always wanted assurances that they could do in the future.

Toshiba bought part of SanDisk's share of the JV but SanDisk never bought it back. I don't know whether there was an agreement that it could do so but any such option was never exercised. Every report of bit share in NAND since the original transaction continues to show Toshiba having a greater share than SanDisk/WDC. The JVs are still owned equally but Toshiba owns a portion outside the JVs.
