Some things I've learned from both working for a company that grew from tiny to large while buying stock all the way up then taking loads of profits to diversify.... then working for one and investing in several no income companies are
  1. Insiders and top management put themselves first and they only care about employees or stockholders in how they can make them richer. Remember that and it helps a ton!

  2. If you had a goose with ability to lay golden eggs, would you have an IPO and let others have some of those eggs? I might only have an IPO if the goose has yet to lay an egg and you need to buy food.

  3. Tiny stocks are so complex and it is very hard to keep the IP from walking out the door to start another company without the accumulated debt.... so look for low debt and large insider ownership if buying small companies.

  4. Also, with lots of debt.... those giving the small companies the loans can stop lending on a dime, watch the Ch11 bankruptcy, then collect the assets to start fresh.

So, fun to put some vegas money into these but I'm not sure I've done much better than buying and holding SPY... especially if you include all the small ones I've bought on the advice of SI members like Waverider, Valence, etc. that were complete busts before I could trade to be on house money.
