Greg:
<<< I have question for you. How nervous are you about deflation? >>>
Am not nervous about deflation, as a taxpayer I am continually
being deflated. Crushed in my old age by increasing costs. My 1960
Ford cost 2500 with all extras, today perhaps 10 times that.
Five or ten years ago, it seemed better, CD's paying over 9%, and I was happy owning ATT stock. Bought some the day of the Oct 87 crash, sold it several years ago. It was kind to me.Markets
much more stable and comfortable.
I was in very peculiar situation then with a pension reduced
$ for $ up to $8000 per year. So dividends were worthless.
Got rather PO 'd about this government stupidity, went out and purposely bought stocks with no dividends from 1993 on(Dell was one)(GGGGGGG)
Nowhere along the time from 1993 to Oct of 1996 was it
clearly apparent to myself or to analysts or to TA chartists or to
the black crows that Dell was going to become the company that it is today. ( or they would have loaded up at $2 (adjusted)/sh)
And yet at times the price "seemed" high at maybe $80 sh,
before those two splits..
It was that "up to 42%" price reduction in Oct of 1996 that convinced me to at least hold the Dell stock.
We all still try to figure it out, and yet it still exceeds
the estimates (for 15 straight quarters of growth)
I agree that it is more comfortable holding ATT which has been in business since Mar 3 1885 . Yet Dell after only 17 years, now has market cap nearly 1/3 as great.
The 100 month returns are: Dell-17137 %, ATT-98%
You have done nicely with ATT, up 65% since July. It is time for some bears to jump on it as a popular, overhyped, over-valued momentum stock. ( Just kidding)
There is not much I can do to avoid inflation or dis-inflation. Have already moved to Texas which is as far as I could get from the US without leaving the country(gggg). There should be more news on the ATT acquisition tomorrow, so
hang in there and do your thing. Hope to see you back on the Dell
train when it breaks loose from this quagmire.
