Palm Computing makes a fist

Company is fighting mad over Microsoft's introduction of a
competing product with a similar name

THE PALMPC IS MICROSOFT'S fifth attempt at
entering the handheld market. This time, the Redmond,
Wash., company is going all-out: seven hardware makers
have announced they will build devices based on Microsoft's
PalmPC design, and the PalmPC name was splashed
prominently around the Consumer Electronics Show in Las
Vegas. (Microsoft is a partner with NBC in the joint venture
that operates MSNBC.)
