TO ALL: Received this disturbing e-mail from Internet Alaska Inc. this morning. We should all corespond with our congressmen.

Hello everyone,

We thought it important for you to know that Sen. Stevens
is taking a lead role in the effort to greatly increase the
cost of your Internet service.

Our typical customer uses the Internet 68 minutes per day.
Long distance companies pay $.06/minute access charges
to local telephone companies. If Sen. Stevens succeeds

** a typical monthly bill may go up by ~$121.68/month **

Internet Alaska does not want to raise our rates or charge
for usage; it is unwise for Sen. Stevens to require us to
do so. Quite simply we believe it will kill our business.

Local phone companies want you to reduce your use of the
Internet; this will happen, whether you want to or not, if
usage-based pricing is forced upon ISPs.

We urge you to mail the following people and organizations
and let them know you oppose the imposition of additional
fees on your Internet Service:

Feb 2nd, 1998 prediction.....$5.00. Feb 2nd, 1999 prediction....$15. The lack of any news of new orders after the trial periods concerns me somewhat, although they may still me in negotiations. The Worldcom deal at this point in the game is just an added FTEL expense. I'm sure Worldcom has a hundred "unknown" telecom companies in the very same arrangement, I may be wrong. Eventually it should pay for itself, but it will probably be a while, then again maybe FTEL is gearing up for a sudden expected increase in load, but as of now there is no news of that sort. The Computer Telephony article is great news, but again, an article by itself is not profit producing. Still looking forward to hearing of some orders from the trial periods.
