I absolutely agree with you on this front. Cisco is a *great* company, no doubt. I respect Cisco as a competitor way more than 3Com or Cabletron.

Problem is, even though Cisco is the largest networking company, they don't have the number 1 spot in most areas of technology, according to Dell'Oro and IDC.

I can't remember exactly, but the last report showing market leaders in 10/100 switched, ATM ports, and 10/100 shared, Cisco was only number 2 on that list, Bay had 2 number one spots and 3Com had some 1 and 2 spots.

Bay also leads in network management. Problem being, our marketing department in the past didn't know how to market, this has changed since House and Shrigley came aboard.

Cisco owns the router market, no question. We are saying with our new layer 3 products, hey they are faster, cheaper, and you can reduce the number of traditional expensive router ports needed, and move that big honking Cisco product to the edge to handle WAN traffic. We did it at the IRS, we did it recently at a major fortune 10 company, and we will continue to do it.

I respect Cisco, I just think they are like Microsoft, a great MARKETING company, a poor TECHNOLOGY company.

Tom, a Bay Bigot!
