I merely presented the facts so that you, Janice, and Jack would not be blindsided by some AHD scholar as you tilt so courageously at this windmill. I was scorned last week because I and my progeny still say It is I. We upholders of the English language must not turn on each other so readily! I accept your abject apology in advance.

But since we have lost the battle, the best we can do is not to use the word improperly ourselves. There is no sense in trying to influence others, since they are already indoctrinated by the media. Even more sadly, the lie/lay situation looks hopeless, although I don't think we can blame the media for this. If there are any (doubtful on this thread) who need a brief lecture on lie/lay, I'll be glad to oblige.
