Re: An important note about analyst "ratings"

Everyone should be mindful about which firms are issuing "buy" ratings on a given stock. Very often when you see a "strong buy" it is from the bank that handles a large volume of business for that stock. For example, CR handles Unicomp, SEEC etc.; Montgomery handles PTUS and so on. I am not saying there are always ulterior motives, but just that the "who" can be as important as the "what".

I recall when Montgomery issued a strong buy on PTUS at 32 or so!

No, I don't have a complete list of who "handles" what stocks, but it would probably be of great benefit to track such things. Anyone care to take a shot?

I've been trying to get you people to notice UCMP for a while now.

It's up today!

Taoman, I checked my "archives" and I have the complete UCMP "strong buy" research report that CR issued last year. There is no date on it, but all data stops at 2/11/97-- so, since I assume it was current as of the issue date, check the chart and see what happened:

I'm curious if history will repeat itself.
