Stephanie, Suggest that you type in DIS reports
on the search bar and you'll find some references by Doug R. to must reading.

Stephanie -

I believe there may be a list of books in the DIS LIBRARY thread. Try a subject search for LIBRARY.

IMO, speaking as a beginner with a lot of books...

"The Visual Investor" by Murphy
An excellent and very readable book. Covers a lot of concepts using pieces of actual charts. Applicable to stocks, funds, and markets, with real examples. Doesn't really get into any "buy here" "sell here" stuff. Does discuss MACD, stochastics, RSI, etc.

"Using Technical Analysis" by Pistolese
Good as a quick first book if you don't know anything. Uses lots of simple fake charts with quizzes to make you recognize patterns. Doesn't really go any deeper than that.

"Secrets for Profiting in Bull and Bear Markets" by Weinstein
An enjoyable book with lots of "which stock should you buy?" quizzes using actual charts with volume, moving averages, and RS. Doesn't really cover other indicators like stochastics. MACD, etc.

"Market Momentum" Pring
Extensive coverage of lots of TA components and indicators. Not a beginner's book.
