I will lose no sleep over your being annoyed. That gibberish you posted below justifying getting rid of universities annoys me.

I was not talking about private colleges, I was talking about public colleges. And as far as cost effective goes they should be supported by local, state and federal taxes. A society will always get back more in educating its people than it will cost, in reduced crime, and increased productivity.

If you want to get rid of poverty and crime educate the people.

And you really miss the point when you talk about colleges as a business model. First and foremost colleges are there to tech wisdom, develop the mind. The more developed a mind is the easier it is to learn to do anything.

Another great thing about traditional colleges is that they force the student to read and learn the thinking of people they would normally never read e.g. James Joyce, TS Elliot, Plato, Alfred North whitehead and Sartre, Russell an Einstein. These are the smartest people to ever live on earth and people who take the time to learn what they are talking about will understand lot more about life. But people do not generally study them, though they should!

As far as existentialism goes it is an abstract concept, a state of understanding, the west's Zen, IMO, and is knowledge directed perception which means one who can understand it will see much more than one who does not.

In this modern world, the ability to deal with complexity and abstract reasoning is what leads to a fulfilled life and an ability to find work.

We should have free pre school and free public schools at least through two years of college, with no entrance exams.

I am actually a little annoyed at you Koan.
You claim you did a 4 year degree in Existentialism (pretentious name for philosopy).

I assume you FAILED cos an Existentialist would never have accused me of "non thinking".

"Harvard Business School professor: Half of American colleges will be bankrupt in 10 to 15 years....
Christensen and co-author Henry Eyring analyze the future of traditional universities, and conclude that online education will become a more cost-effective way for students to receive an education, effectively undermining the business models of traditional institutions and running them out of business."

I did a search on jobs in transport , medicine, tech, high school etc... and having a degree in Existentialism was NEVER a plus or need or actually given lip service... you should have just gone to Church on Sundays. or run as a Democrat and ruminate on Gender bathrooms. - thats where the money is.

Definition.
"existentialism is a philosophy concerned with finding self and the meaning of life through free will, choice, and personal responsibility. The belief is that people are searching to find out who and what they are throughout life as they make choices based on their experiences, beliefs, and outlook. And personal choices become unique without the necessity of an objective form of truth. An existentialist believes that a person should be forced to choose and be responsible without the help of laws, ethnic rules, or traditions."
