Realtime MPEG-1 encoder in parallel port package

AverMedia Technologies Inc., based in Taiwan, has introduced the AverMedia MPEGWizard, billed as an affordable external realtime MPEG-1 encoder that lets users make their own digital videos for use in presentations, email, Web pages or CD-ROMs.

The AverMedia MPEGWizard can capture true pixel-to-pixel image resolutions of up to 704 by 576 dots in 24-bit color, although it also allows 1,600-by-1,200 capture with an included zoom solution. The unit compresses video at up to 352 by 240 lines for NTSC and 352 by 288 lines for PAL.

The MPEGWizard plugs directly into the parallel port of a Pentium PC and allows the capture of composite/S-video input in real time to full MPEG-1 at a typical 200:1 compression ratio. Also, the encoder provides full-screen image capture capabilities and works with a sound card to allow for MPEG audio capture.

The model comes with a complete set of digital video applications, including Net Toob Stream from Duplexx, I-FilmEdit from Cinax, Studio M from Astound and AverMedia's Digital VCR control software.

AverMedia can be contacted by fax at 886-2-2214538 or visit aver.com.
