As I have posted to you multiple times the GOP is dominant at all levels of gov because of people just like you. We have a POTUS that is removing all that the America hating Obama placed on us by exec fiat. Proof from your own presidential candidate: Democrat calls last election a bad forest fire Don Surber by Don Surber Martin O'Malley, a former governor of Maryland, was a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination in 2016. He was blistering in his assessment of Barack Obama's impact on the party. In a podcast, O’Malley told ABC News' Jonathan Karl and Rick Klein : “What is happening now is the party is regenerating itself, almost like after a bad forest fire.” Wow. The Scorched Earth analogy. From O'Malley: “To put it kindly, President Obama decided to set up a separate political organization rather than infusing that energy of his candidacy and his amazing and historic victory, rather than infusing that energy into the veins of the Democratic Party and making the Democratic Party new and more energetic, instead the president and his people decided to set up a separate organization in ‘Organizing for America,’ OFA. I guess the president, perhaps and his people, thought their roles in history was to transform us, allow all of it to transcend beyond the need for political parties.”Notice, O'Malley is talking about apparatus, not ideas. O'Malley blames Democratic organizing efforts rather than Democratic ideas for the party's collapse. Organizing is important. But ideas are more important. I keep getting back to my contention that the 2016 election was about ideas, not personality -- substance, not style. If it had been about personality and style, Clinton would have won easily. She had twice as much money to burn on ads. But Trump made it an ideas election as he challenged the bipartisan notions of globalism, open borders, and endless wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. However, O'Malley did point out one factor. The Koch Brothers and other big spenders skipped the presidential campaign and invested down ballot. That worked. From O'Malley: “So when the Republicans and their small group of very wealthy donors, who are not afraid to write big checks, saw what was happening, they immediately filled that vacuum. And in a very methodical way, fielded candidates with a whole lot of money to run for state senate, state legislators, backed candidates for governor. And they were able to wipe us out at the state level and increasingly at the local level. We’ve never gone through a period of time, at least not in modern history were the Democratic party lost so many seats and so many governors offices even as our president was a Democratic. That was a mistake that we made. We have to learn from that mistake. And I believe what is happening now is the party is regenerating itself, almost like after a bad forest fire.”But as with any forest, it may take decades for the Democrats to recover. However, they are blessed to have Republicans as their rivals, and not competent people.
