Saying he's an idiot or that you disagree with him or that he is a jerk or even arrogant, all are reasonable. The Goldwater rule is for professionals. I'm an engaged citizen. Recognizing that he's a narcissist, for example, and characterizing him as such is no different from recognizing that he's a jerk or arrogant or an idiot. Or fat or undisciplined or short-tempered or vengeful or disrespectful or whatever.
