forgiveness must be proceeded by repentence.
This is going off on a tangent, but that's not the Christian definition of forgiveness.

Forgiving someone involves giving up your right to retribution.

The one being forgiven may or may not be repenting. The one being forgiven may or may not be sorry for what was done.

Have you seen family members of shooting victims forgiving the killer? I have, and in those cases the killer is FAR from repentant.
