Shortly after you wake up, the House of Representatives will pass it. Republicans will finally have their first and only major success of this year in Congress, followed shortly thereafter by a race to avoid a government shutdown. President Trump deserves a victory tweet or two. This package should produce some amount of economic stimulus and the skeptical public will see tax relief. In fact, President Trump should make it a regular talking point this coming year to remind voters Democrats said they were getting tax increases, but their take home pay has gone up. Because it will. Unfortunately, as is so often the case, the President is entering into Christmas holidays and will be out of the White House surrounded by friends, a television, and his phone. If the Thanksgiving holiday period and other periods of prolonged absence from the structure of the White House show us anything, President Trump is going to get himself in trouble on Twitter. He will see or be told something that sets him off. The media will have a field day. The White House will scramble. And everyone will forget this huge victory, just as they forgot so many of his other accomplishments this year by distracted tweeting. Someone should remind the President how quickly the media moves on to other stories. If the President is going to tweet, he should continuously tweet reminders to the public that tax reform passed and it will help all Americans. The moment he gives the media something else to talk about, the media will move on away from tax reform. Frankly, the greatest trolling the President could do would be to not tweet for 30 days. Remember, when he went to Europe some networks (CNN I think) ran a daily counter on the number of days the President hadn't tweeted. If the President could exercise the self-discipline to not tweet for 30 days, he'd then have some great tweets highlighting how obsessed the media is with his tweeting and how the media would rather focus on his tweets than other stories. But you can't teach an old dog new tricks and I have given up on the idea of the President not tweeting. So I hope that at least with this victory at the end of the year the President might put some greater thought into his tweets so as not to provide opportunities or even force the national conversation away from this accomplishment. I won't hold my breath.themaven.net
