Finally, a voice of sanity speaking out on the "China" situation. While it is so welcome to hear an honest assessment of China's growth capabilities it most likely will have little impact on reasonable thinking for semi investors. They will still believe these endless articles in the press about China "taking over the semi world" by big investments that will yield results in the next 6 months. Truly unbelievable, but the market falls for this tripe over and over again.
The goals are “just ludicrous…China taking over the rest of the world in IC production is not happening,” McClean said at an annual talk here.

The country has pledged as much as $120 billion to fund its chip industry, in part because it spends more on importing semiconductors than on oil. But McClean expects only about 10 percent of those funds will be spent over the next three years on capital equipment.
