Hi BT,

Amazing how much reading you have to do, or feel compelled to do, when you are away from the threads for a while. One thing I have learned is these posts are addictive, or at least habit forming.

<<Is this in line with grow your own veggies to reduce the balance of payments here in Malaysia>>

Not really, but I have to tell you I have miserable luck with Veggies. Flowers do much better. Critters keep eating my veggies.

<<Are we getting ready for the election this summer?????>>

Something has definitely changed, hasnt it. Its the talk of the "hood" .
I have a neighbor, I won't mention names but he is "large" in UMNO. He has been in almost dawn to dusk meetings the last several days. Here is an interesting thought: what if the decision was already made and an heir selected? In any case, no question that someone is governing his highness eh?

<<the Chinese would have nothing to lose and everything to gain by having the IMF's transparency rules in effect. No special loan arrangements for Bumi's, no forgiveness of loans, no buying $1,000.000 RM houses with $10 down.>>

Hehe, you must hang with a righteous crowd. The guys I know would have to run for cover if someone pulled the sheets back on their business practices. In all seriousness, there is, of course, considerable resentment at the duplicitous nature of the local governing laws that stack the deck in favor of the Malay people. But in practice there is transgression on all parts. Do not let your frineds suggest to you that the Chinese business people here are somehow above corruption. It simply wouldnt be true IMO. Corruption and greed are attributes that are color blind. And I am not sure transparency or new IMF rules would necessarily call for an elimination of those built in discriminatory laws that favor the Bumi's. I tell the Chinese I talk to that they should be thankful they don't have to put up with the Saraya police.
Best,
Stitch
