Mindmeld, and the only publication where this is being reported is The Weekly Standard? That's amazing.

Just to be sure, I clicked on one of the links provided in the article:

Syllabus for: Blended US Literature and Composition

And right there, I see it (emphasis mine):

*******
By the end of the year, you will have:

• Become a deeper, smarter reader of literature and all texts

Learned how to apply marxist, feminist, post-colonial, psychoanalytic, reader response, and aesthetic lenses to literature

• Become a confident writer, ready for the rigor of senior year and beyond

• Participated meaningfully in class discussions and small group conversations

• Improved your collaborative skills

• Developed your online literacy

• Grown into a student who can think critically about the American experience on all levels: literary, historical, political, personal, etc.
*******

Why should any student have to apply "marxist, feminist, and post-colonial lenses" to literature? Shouldn't the student be allowed to apply any lens that he or she chooses? Wouldn't the class be better off with more viewpoints than the ones that are prescribed by the syllabus?

It's alarming to see that public schools have become indoctrination centers. No wonder many conservatives felt like they had to go with Donald Trump, because they feel powerless to stop this nonsense.
