IMO...if we want to put a damper on this, we will need armed guards at school. A combination of volunteer teachers, police and deputized volunteer citizens... preferably veterans.

.....certainly this would be a major PART of any solution...........teachers in general are a civil minded bunch...........I would bet a few in every school would volunteer to become trained conceal and carry first responders..............I remember in high school I had a US history teacher who was born and raised locally and was a volunteer fireman as well.............he used to park his car right outside the first floor classroom he was permanently assigned. When a local town fire alarm sounded, he would grab his coat and hop right out the first floor window and be in his car and off to the fire in seconds. He went on to become Mayor of the town he was born in.............a great teacher.................and a GREATER man. There are plenty of these types already in our school system............service means everything to them.............it is insane we do not make use of them.

Seeing this article reminded me of the exchange we had a while ago:

Officer at Florida School Waited Outside Instead of Confronting Shooter, Sheriff Says

You know what this means, right? We can't even rely on armed guards at school, so we might as well just turn in all of our guns and repeal the 2nd amendment. #sarcasm
