Words are cheap. Like prayers.

You can say it's "essential" to keep school kids safe, but the irrefutable evidence is that it is not. If it were essential, something would have been done after Sandy Hook. It's clearly not "essential". It's not "essential" the way signature political drivers are for your party- like tax cuts for the wealthy- now that, I guess, was essential. And getting guns into the hands of the mentally ill- also essential (done so quickly, right?)

You can say it is "essential", but you vote for people who act like it is clearly not essential. You could say, "But I vote for them because of other important priorities." All of which means, kids, safety, not essential.

Keeping school kids safe isn't a hobby

Biking and range shooting are hobbies. The former were the hobbyists that you were cavalierly defunding in favor of the latter.

In Texas, they'd let the HS kids get shot before they shifted funds from their new football stadium to pay for them not to get shot. So, it's just totally unworkable.
