Nobody who knows ballistics would expect a 9MM to prevail when matched against an AR-15.

Knockdown power of a bullet is a function of the square of its velocity.

A typical 9MM bullet has a muzzle velocity of 1200 fps. 1200 squared is 1,440,000

A typical .223 cal bullet has a muzzle velocity of 3000 fps. 3000 squared is 9,000,000.

The .223 bullet from the rifle has over 6 times the knockdown power of the 9MM pistol bullet.

Additionally, pistols are far less accurate than AR-15s, and their magazines only hold half as many bullets.

Unless the 9MM shooter is able to sneak up on an AR-15 shooter and get off a lucky first shot, a 9MM against an AR-15 is a suicide mission.
