In this article, '98 notebook shipments are estimated to be 16mil.

Perhaps it's the U.S. Market vs. the Total worldwide shipments.

Either way, it's a lot more than 3,000,000!

Buckwheat, 7M+ for notebooks is more like it, 1.5M inventory (50% of 3 million) is 10 weeks of production, about 1.5 Intel "price cuts!" Petz
