There were plenty of market panics even before the algos. Markets are emotional - of course they are, when big $$ swing around. Programs are created by humans -- like, "if XYZ occurs, get me out right away no matter what!"... Algos probably make swings worse.

I bet that high frequency trading uses a hellova lot electricity. Someone should alert the World Savers to that fact.
