Our life expectancy has fallen the last two year because of the opiate problem. I haven't studied the reasons for the other declines but it seems obvious that large chunks of our society don't have access to any healthcare (or didn't until the ACA but even that isn't enough since the deductibles are still very high).

I blame republicans for the lack of legislation reforming our very antiquated health care delivery system. They say the free market is best but the world has proven them wrong. I think most of the countries that have higher life expectancy depend on the government to ensure everyone is taken care of. This is not suggesting that government solutions are always better. Russia (for example) has free health care but it's listed as being 154.
