Socialism is the siren call of heroin. I truly liked that one. At least the people in Iceland seem to be quite frank and open about how they see the good and bad things in their society. While the Swedes these days don't open their mouth being scared of being labelled racists, nazis or other bad stuff, they are very similar to the Icelandic way of thinking as you describe it. Furthermore they are traditionally quite positive towards the US and its citizens, which you'll find out, when you visit. That's a long story with roots back at least to WWII. Quite different from many other countries in Europe, where the Yankees are not exactly held in high esteem. No clue why that is, but is a fact like in Germany and France among others.
