OT

Can anyone suggest to me why people would donate millions of dollars to the Canadian hockey team accident victims? I understand money for funerals and for therapy if medicare doesn't pay for that. But what else? Insurance will likely cover the bus. I don't get it.

>>>"I'm recognizing the difference between a law that forces someone to violate his conscience and political correctness. "<<<

I can see the difference as well. I am a little uncomfortable with the word "force" being used in this context. I determined long ago that no one is truly forced to do anything as long as there is another option or avenue, which there always is. I was thinking of a softer meaning (like pressured) when I used the word "compelled."

There is definitely pressure used in society to get people to speak and act according to politically correct guidelines. You mentioned the pronoun "ze." There is nothing wrong or offensive about the pronoun "ze." It's a word and the meaning is clear. Insisting someone use the word "ze" when they have other perfectly good options, however, is an infringement on their right to freedom of speech.

>>>"If someone in an office environment using the training you mentioned is being compelled to do something he considers horribly immoral, then you would have a point."<<<

That is not the point I was trying to make so I don't know why that is important for you to bring it up. I was thinking more along the lines of simple freedom of expression and protections against coercive social climate, which I see as largely a product of wide spread advocacy for political correctness.

>>>"I'm not sure how your example applies. No one was forced to vote for Obama. It's hard to imagine that anyone was compelled to consider him the best choice or even a good choice or even to pretend that he was a good choice."<<<

It is not the strongest case example but it is one that everyone has information on. I did not object to him as president and I don't remember having criticism of him in office. My objection is to the attitude expressed frequently ... the attitude expressing that it was good that we elected him because he is black or mixed race. I am critical of that PC attitude because it does seem some people cast their vote so as not to appear racist and some probably supported him during his office for the same reason. I am asked why I don't criticize Trump voters for the same reason. I don't support Trump and never have but I don't criticize Trump voters for the same reason because I have never seen a Trump supporter claim they voted for Trump so they could have a white president. There probably are some people who think that and I will say I find that attitude just as deplorable. I am reminded that Trump won against Hillary/Sanders. Left wingers make that racist claim but it seems relatively unfounded when applied to the right wing at large.

Sorry, if I've muddled the puddle but sometimes a good puddle stomping is what it takes to clear out debris.
