Just a subset of the democratic party that think they know best what the people deserve. Pushing their ideology onto the people. I think that you are conflating the quality of being elite with being arrogant and imposing. Both class cohorts hold their ways in high regard, disdain the other. Each may impose on the other, or not, if it has the power.

How in the hell do you think Democracy works?? Liberals do think they know best how society should be constructed in the peoples best interest and fight for it as best they can. Just like conservatives do, only liberals are usually more honest and play less hardball. And as the Republicans have been out to lunch for 100 years administering in the peoples best interest sometimes they have to be pushed like needed social programs for people like social security and medicare or ending racism and passing the equal rights amendment. << No!!!
