Extracting major concessions and joining would have reduced barriers to entry, which is part of the problem. The other problem, intellectual property theft, should have been confronted head on, If it wasn't confronted, it was only because many companies got enamored by the profits of doing business in China. In most instances, American companies knew what was going on and they acquiesced because they figured it was still worth doing business. Whose fault is that if you consent to a crooked scheme? Was there anyone holding a gun to these companies heads to do business in China? It is not as if they didn't know what was expected of them? So, they came along for the ride, like the driver of a car, carrying those who are going to rob a bank! Those companies are just as guilty as China for knowing in advance and complying. There were certain advantages joining TPP and the US missed out (for the time being). Trump and the whole liberal wing of the Democratic Party missed the point. Don't make poor excuses to the people who lost their jobs due to cheap outsourcing of jobs overseas. That's life. Those people should have done something constructive about their plight rather than whining and crying like sissies, blaming others for their predicament. Retrain yourself, move on, get a better job. I know it's not easy to do this when you have a family to support. The government should have provided free training and extended benefits to retrain these people so they could get on with their life and get new jobs. The crying, the resentment, the hostility to foreigners is not healthy.
