The problem is that the popular conception of feedback loops is that they are a circle of one factor affecting another which then affects the first (or there can be more than two) and you keep running around the circle. The typical "virtuous cycle" meme. If that is your view of things, than it seems logical that one could look at any element and see it as no more causative in the cycle than any other element. The chicken or egg problem, or is it poor behavior vs economic opportunity. But actual feedback system are not that way. There is a difference between elements in the forward part of the loop vs the loop closure feedback portion. Hence the numerator and denominator have different behavior.
