Who cares? Americans no longer want to live in a society in which gun deaths are much, much higher than in other Western democracies. Americans don't enjoy waking up to reading about kids blown away in school and children's guts splattered around their classrooms. You, perhaps, can make your peace with that- maybe you don't even care- who knows?. Who cares how you rationalize the weird stuff you manage to embrace. But the data in this country suggests that most people don't give a crap about defensive use of guns because they don't own guns and they don't want to- and they want fewer idiots with guns running around waving them about and shooting people- or having their toddlers shoot people.
