I never bought into the nonsense that more military spending ended the Cold War. Gorbachev gave his people free elections for the first time in 70 years and they voted communists out of power. The USSR collapsed because of free elections not military toys.

Republicans needed an excuse for the Reagan debt so they used the fall of the USSR to justify it. Reagan had no idea what he was doing.

More bullshit. Carter ran deficits of 50 billion a year.

Reagan's first year he exploded deficits to 250 billion a year by increasing defense spending by 100 billion and cutting taxes on the rich by 100 billion.

Those new deficits last all 8 years and four more for Bush sr.

You need to educate yourself before you post. Your posts are sloppy as far as facts go.

And Carter, that's when the increase actually started. Before that you had big cutbacks, before that you had a lot of spending but on prosecuting Vietnam not modernizing and setting up the military to perform well long term.
