As I've pointed out, the death rate in the USA is independent of the murder rate to, its 100%.

Yes everyone dies, but not everyone gets their lives cut off years early by violence.

Most people advocating for gun control are concerned about walking down a street and being shot by random violence.

If they could wave a magic wand and totally eliminate their chance of being shot and killed, but not reduce their chance of being violently killed at all (with the violent death coming by some other method) would they pay a lot for that magic wand? I wouldn't pay a penny. Getting stabbed or beaten to death rather than shot to death isn't an improvement.

You keep wanting to bury the random gun violence issue under the total homicide rate, and hope therefore to say that gun control won't impact the former.

It is no accident that Tim references John Lott's work when it comes to gun control. Lott has made a career of doing exactly what Tim has done. And John has a habit of just making statistics up when he can't cherry pick his way to support his assertions.
