A balanced budget in the US is not even remotely possible or practical due to social programs. It simply cannot be done. The only real hope is to stimulate economic growth through making the United States a better place to do business and doing things to put every possible individual to work while encouraging education on "thought-labor" jobs and de-emphasis of university education (kill student loan program at once), focus on STEM online.

The almost balanced budget of Clinton was a product of THREE things:

a) Reagan ended the Cold War which yielded a peace dividend

b) Clinton recognized after his first term if he wanted a legacy he would have to work with the Republicans; Gingrich was a strong leader who would work with Clinton to cut back on the out of control welfare programs and other costs that were killing the country, and

c) As part of (b), Clinton cut capital gain taxes in his second term which brought in revenue that was not going to otherwise be collected at that time.

Some analyses have estimated each of these three items were responsible for about 1/3 of the deficit reduction.

Clinton's most important accomplishment was the realization that his legacy would depend on how well he worked with the congressional Republicans to achieve common goals, because he found Republicans ready to work with him.

Unfortunately, we don't have a willing Congress today because the country is so much more divided.

I think they know, which is why they hate liberals and voted for Trump to beta us up, even at the expense of their own lives.

It is called biting off your nose to spite your face.

Their side can't balance the budget and that's their issue. Again, who's that dumb? Do they know they're this dumb?
