Sure, think about what the actual battle is in the US right now. We are effectively a plutocratic oligarchy. So what would help the plutocrats to maintain control. Money for elections to spread propaganda to fool the people to vote for them. Citizens United did exactly that. The Republican rank and file do not realize they are being being manipulated by a group of people who do not have their best interests at heart. And the manipulation is cynical e.g. Lee Atwater's Southern Strategy whereby they appealed directly to racists to win elections and won the entire south over with that strategy. The people in the south voted Republican and then they went down and destroyed their unions and social safety net, lowered wages with tax cuts to the rich and generally drove the south into poverty. And the south still doesn't get it, in the aggregate. << They have the ability to control the media even though no one supports them. I think SCOTUS changed the Constitution to ensure republicans could get billions of dollars of donations because without that ruling the party would have died.
