Phil, a Mr Smith had posted a statement on the PFG forum to the effect that Mr Jerry Phillips was considering suing PFG for manipulation of stock price to the benefit of its current management. Here is Mr Shrakes response:

12 January 1998 I spoke with Gerry Phillips this morning and Mr. Phillips assured me that there is absolutely no truth to the rumor that he has any intention of filing a lawsuit, nor has he ever made allegations of the sort you assert. Furthermore, Mr. Phillips was not even aware of any such rumor. I question your intent by publishing such nonsense. By doing so you are falsely accusing the company and its directors of illegally withholding material information and illegally manipulating the stock price for personal gain. You should be aware that the internet is like any other media in that your statements are subject to defamation laws. I can only assume that you did not take the elementary precaution of speaking with Mr. Phillips yourself prior to making your false and unsubstantiated posting. I have turned this matter over to legal counsel and the Company will also be reporting this to the B.C. Securities Commission and stock exchange surveillance departments to investigate. The integrity of Pacific Rim and its directors is unsurpassed. We welcome the input of our shareholders and we are committed to addressing any and all questions that come up. However, any attempt to defame the Company or affect the value of the Company by making totally unfounded and unsubstantiated statements will be dealt with appropriately.

I hope Mr John Smith (whoever he is) and his birdie have covered their tracks b/c it looks like somebody is going to come looking for them. Hard to tell when the line is crossed but it seemed to me he crossed it. By using others names & mixing in specific ore grades etc. it seemed he was no longer stating an opinion or a concern but was trying to raise his allegations to fact status. Interested in how others see it. Could be sort of chilling to discussion but company is certainly within its rights to defend its integrity & honesty.

Regards, Dave
