He was okay until we talked about the SS hit. He ended up saying, "Shit, it ain't worth it. I'm just gonna stay home." That's what he did. I think to a certain extent that reflects a design decision of SS. They wanted older people to retire rather than stay in the workforce "taking jobs" from younger people. IMO considering that a benefit is a backwards way to look at things, but to be fair the program was created during the great depression, and when unemployment is that high the "lump of labor fallacy" ( en.wikipedia.org ) seems to make a lot of sense to most people.
