There's no transparency on whether Intel makes any money on the modems it sells to Apple. But one thing we do know is that they don't work as well as QCOM modems and cannot measure up to the performance of any recent QCOM modems already in production. Centriq uses Snapdragon technology, which has been shown to be superior to Intel chips for use in smartphones. Even though Centriq in its present version does not do the same job as Intel servers, the claim is that it is superior in cost and power consumption for certain jobs that servers do. That may be too limited, in which case its viability is in question, as well as the claims by its designers (i.e., Qualcomm management).
