<<At the productplanning stage, AMD management made the decision to use some very aggressive process steps. Local interconnects are not easy to manufacture, for anyone.>>

Do you know what you are talking about? Do you know what local interconnect (LI) is and why it is so hard to manufacture? Or is local interconnect is just a jargon that every manager uses to blame everything on? For your information, Motorolla and IBM are using the same process as AMD, LI and 5 metal layers. Their yield on the Power PC is >60%. Apparently LI was not a problem for them. Another information for you is that I called up my buddy engineer at AMD to ask what the problem is. He said that the yield is due to poor execution on the management of FAB25. Now do you believe what I am saying? What I am saying is that if others can achieve good results on the same process then AMD should do the same.
