What about news that Mitsubishi is shutting down its wafer plant in Southern U.S.? Was it old or what?

I've seen the full report, and Dan Rose is a respected analyst, but it amazes me that Korea, currently on the brink of soverign default, factors so heavily into his forecast. Until the daisy-chain cross subsidiary loan guarantees of the chaebol are unwound, and their business restructured, it does not seem possible to estimate the impact of the Korean semi industry on the materials market. The transition from standard to epi-coated wafers bodes well for those who've made big investments in additional epi capacity, no doubt. That would include WFR, but I don't believe they're as strong in epi as others such as SEH & Sumitomo. O5 may have more insight on the relative position of these competitors in that market segment.

Mark, pardon my ignorance, but how does an epitaxial wafer differ
from a prime wafer?

"As the entire world begins to move toward using
epitaxial wafers in place of prime wafers for advanced
products, demand will soar, reaching one-third of the total
silicon wafer market in 2000,"
