Most definitely, I had been taking diabetic meds to control my blood sugar for years and then I went to a plant based diet......

A primarily plant based diet with some animal protein is what did the trick for me, and no more meds...

My A1C has gone from 6.7 with medication down to 5.9 without any medication as of last week's fasting blood test, and ALL the numbers are moving in the right direction... the numbers don't lie and they tell me I'm on the right track...

A plant based diet is as simple as it gets... that's lots of veggies, salads, fruit, and some meats, chicken, or whatever kind of proteins... I have a modest breakfast consisting of a choice from a menu of eggs, nuts, cheese, fruits, fish, then one meal mid afternoon, and then no dinner but snacking fruits, nuts, and whatever until breakfast the next morning...

I've also been using avocado oil instead of olive oil since it was discussed on this great thread a month or so ago, with the oil I take one or two red potatoes and make French fries and have a salad with it, that's become one of my favorite meals... AND I've also introduced raw honey frequently into the diet... raw honey means absolutely NO processing, simply taken right from the hive with the pollen and whatever else there is in that honey including parts of bees and whatever else... I would put some raw honey on my bananas for a great breakfast dessert and have that with walnuts after the eggs and/or other fruit...

On the weekends I eat what I want, e.g., pizza, ice cream, whatever, and no problems as long as I stay on track during the week...

goldworldnet:
Diabetes is usually a preventable disease.Moderate weight, low sugar, and moderate carbs will drastically reduce your chances of becoming a Type 2 Diabetic.

I was diagnosed in 1987 with Heart Failure, Diabetes 2, chronically high blood pressure and Permanent Atrial Fibrillation. I have massively enlarged left and right atria, plus other damage to my heart. I live down in South Florida and, I guess, had dieted too long on Cuban and Nicaraguan food, including full plate steak on a plate full of curly fries, with sweet plantains for dessert! Also worked for a large corporation that wined and dined me quite often! Miss it!

That said...

As my health deteriorated I started doing something about it. I wanted to track down why my blood pressure was too high. I took my blood pressure an average of 7 times a day (for many years, 31000+ readings) and linked my high blood pressure to my diet and to chemicals and allergens and other irritants.

I went on a small meal, low calorie, low carb, low glycemic, balanced diet of 6-7 meals per day. End result... annual blood pressure daily averages of about 122/72 all day long! Sugar always in healthy range. Heart and health doing very well.

I monitor my results by my blood pressure and my blood sugar and my symptoms. For instance, if I start feeling off, one of the things I test is to lower my carbs regardless of my blood sugar readings.

Anywho... just wanted to share my story.

Regards, Bob
