Everyone frames this meeting as NK agreeing to meet Trump.

No, it isn't like that. It was Trump who agreed to meet Kim. Kim has extended an offer to meet every president since at least Clinton. And none have complied because the man runs a horrible government and it wouldn't be a good thing diplomatically to meet with a guy like that. They only conducted low level talks and Kim broke his word the two times people thought they had an agreement.

Reminder: when Obama said he would meet with Kim under certain conditions, the Republicans screamed about it, said that a US president should not extend that courtesy to a guy like Kim.

It wasn't NK that agreed to come to the table. They have been wanting a one on one with the US for decades. It was Trump who agreed to come to the table, not Kim. The US has always insisted that NK is a regional problem and that nothing substantive can be done without the other regional players. Which includes South Korea, Japan, Russia and China.

Don't let Trump frame the issue. It has never been the case that NK was some sort of shy damsel who has been reluctant to talk and that Trump pulled off some sort of coup by luring Kim to the table. No, it was Kim that pulled off the coup, being treated as an equal to the US and above South Korea.

The only reason NK sat down with Trump is that Trump laid down a sanctions regime unparalleled in our time. And there are more to come if he doesn’t come to terms.

You have that exactly backwards. I'd say Trump agreed to meet Kim because Kim has an H-bomb and a reasonable ICBM to go with it. Kim has always wanted to be treated as an equal. Its the USA who has refused to consider that.

I'm sure Iran is watching this with great interest. It should suggest a strategy for them.

No, I think it's more that he knows he's got a desperate Dotard. Trump's had 2 'summits' with Xi, got nada. This last G7 'summit' was just an embarrassment for the US. Trump has ZERO 'deals' as president.

Just Trump meeting with him, a guy running a Birmingham, Alabama size economy, is a MAJOR win for Kim.
