P.T., if we were interested in sense, would we be long any large-cap tech stocks right now?

Regarding Intel in particular, I'm concerned about what good old steve said a while back on some other thread --- that Compaq had stuffed the channel for Christmas. That's a lot of CPUs, and I assume Intel has them on the books for Q497. Since the channel didn't exactly report a blowout Christmas, shouldn't CPU orders go way down in Q198?

"Can anyone believe it! Intel's EPS is down 10% from a year ago, the margins are shrinking, the competition is increasing, yet the stock is up 20%?

PTB"

Perhaps you should get your facts lined up before you insult someone.E in 1997 were up dramatically from 1996. Revenues were also up 4.4 billion or about 20%. Yet the stock has languished.

I don't know that I'd say competition is increasing, especially from AMD, when they admit their defect rate, hence yields, are unacceptable. This time even Colonel Sanders didn't predict light at the end of the tunnel, that is of course unless it's a train with an i on the side of it.
