hey tomasso---yes, i'm still alive, but barely. holiday visitors combined with a nasty case of something or other left me feel ing out of sorts and in barely a good enough mood to log on. no chance for "chatting." and then the new years rolls around and i'm off on one of my whirlwind tours of all palces cold, including your nieghborhood city with the big shoulders, where the wind chill saturday morning when i dicided to venture out for a little stroll on michigan avenue was -20. miss. m., who was born and raised in socal cannnot fathom how tempertures can be colder than zero. she claims it's an impossibility. i showed her my frost bite scars.

had a bunch of plane reading time, which kept me away from sharp instruments that i would have used last friday if i would have known what was going on. in this case, ignorance was definitly bliss. but, the small turnaround this week is heartning but i just believe more and more that this market will continue to a rollarcoaster ride that comes without air sickness bags. everytime you think it's set for this or that, it does the opposite. i believe all the perameters that shaped thinking in the past have become passe'. i cna't believe there has ever been a better time to allow AIM to keep us under control. it's like a seat restraint for me and i've been proud of myself that i have exhibited patience in allowing AIM to do its job. if it fails, well we won't take up much space in the veale warehouse.

saw where your VTSS went up 5 1/4 yesterday. how nice for you, *%$*****. CGEN seems to be back up to the level where it usually startys to pull back. are you still "boobing" around with this? i thought BSX was off on its return to the +60 level when it rose mid week, but it has since backed up to below our last buying levels. no news and i keep coming across analysts who are saying it's probably a good buy at these levels. that scares the crap outta me.

saw in the journal today that brandywine fund just went to 2/3 cash selling off most teach and jholding pharmasuticals and retails mostly. their president is a conservative maverick named foster friess. i know, i know, he should just stick to ice cream.

read an article about a missive called ther stock traders almanac written by yale hirsch, patterned after the farmers almanac and offering up tasty tidbits of drivel on january effects, xmas rallys, best buying times and days, etc, etc. he contends that 1998 will be a banner year because "8's are great." Yeah, in '68 the market outperformed the s&p by 4.3%, in '78 it trailed by 3.1%and in '88 it was up 11.8%. not exactly numbers to write home about.

also found out something i didn't know that smart-$@@#* like you and bruce probably do. i was reading an article about volume signals and i found out nasdq counts each buy and sell as a trade while the nyse counts a buy and a sell together as one trade. kind of interesting and i wonder just how many people are aware of this as we notice volume attached to securities.

well, time to head home and do my nightly "sell" dance. this is where i take various stock certificates and hang them from various body parts as a way to appease the trading gods in the hope that they'll grant me a fill on a sell order this month. neighbors have complained only once or twice. they know i'm not running on all cylinders.
