That's why I've come to believe that liberals can't govern. They can't make the hard choices. Or if they try, they can't stay in office. I can't argue with that. But we're not in a perfect world. I have for decades now been fond of gridlock, although less so over time as unsolved problems have built up. So, you are advocating the making of hard choices. The thing about hard choices is that the harder they are, the more it matters that they be good ones. I'd rather no choices, either by gridlock or by liberals, who at the very least are professional about their governing, than bad, rough choices. How sad that we can't do better.
