To thread:

A look back at cpq's chart over the last five years reveals a minor tid-bit some of you might find interesting. At no time during the last five years has a cpq downtrend or correction (call it what you will) lasted as long the current downtrend or correction which began around October 10, 1997 (over three months ago). During last five years, after a downtrend, cpq began a new up-trend substantially sooner than 3+ months. Furthermore, the next uptrend has not yet begun - so it is possible that the current correction could last 4 or more months (although my gut tells me that is unlikely).

Some of you may want to catch Jim Jubak's telephone discussion this evening about yesterday's "sucker rally" as he describes it (Jubak 's personal stock picking prowess leaves a lot to be desired - but it might be some fun to hear from some of the so-called "suckers")

Mohan,

CPQ down today to 57 and change earlier on rumors of CEO (EP) leaving the company. At around 3:00 pm , Lucianne Painter came on the box to announce that rumors were not true and reiterated her buy on the stock. Hence the sharp recovery from the low levels. All info courtesy of my ML broker. Good Luck.

Mohan, The company News Thread is simply a depository for news Items that one feels are important to all members of the normal discussion thread.

As an example the Ascend News-Only thread. Subject 16625

No discussions are allowed on the Ascend News-Only thread, and members voluntarily adhere to that rule.

Placing an item (on the news-only thread) assures that the news will not be lost amongst the many items on the discussion thread.

I personally felt that your news item rated a place on a news-only thread.

My 3.3 cents worth ( approx. 2 pence, I should think.)

Mardy
