" now California is now permanently blue."

The credit for that goes to R. Governor Pete Wilson.

And now California is now permanently blue.

It used to be reliably red. Until the Republicans, with a legislative majority but a demographic minority, tried to impose unpopular policies on the majority. In other words, they over-reached. That showed the majority that they could no longer just ignore state level politics any more and galvanized them to vote. It was a major example of an own goal.

Rule by a minority isn't very stable without cooperation of the majority. Either tacitly by not voting, or having a fear campaign by the minority to suppress opposition. When pushed too far, the minority either loses at the ballot box or lose their heads in the uprising.

<<Hispanics are an important and soon to be dominant constituency of the Democratic party,>>

What happens when Hispanics are no longer content to just be constituents and start banding together to vote Hispanics into office by throwing mainstream white Democrats out of office? That's the question I see looming.

Will the Democrat party be taken over the same way the GOP is being (possibly) taken over by Trump supporters?

Will the country split increasingly more along race and ethnic lines? A recent poll showed white males aged 18-34 are continuing to leave the Democrat party in large numbers.

They wouldn't all be blue if the Republican party wasn't racist.

And now California is now permanently blue. When do you expect the Republicans to have a majority in the legislature.

Hispanics are an important and soon to be dominant constituency of the Democratic party,
