Doug E., Bob Grutza would be more qualified to answer but it was my impression that just a few months ago only SVGI's Micrascan step and scan technology was capable of .25 micron with Hg bulbs (the others may have since caught up). If true, SVGI's stock would be through the roof. It also seems they would have had little incentive to form the service and support alliance with Cymer.

Ed and Douglas,

Intel is the exception to the rule. As far as I know, Micrascan II+s are the only i-line steppers good for 0.25 photolithography. SVGI has <5% market share in steppers. Thus, 95% of the market uses excimer lasers to acheive 0.25&#181m resolutions. Intel will be using excimer lasers for their 0.18 process(to begin ramping in '99).

To Ed, Hg is the symbol for mercury.

To Douglas, optical lithography includes Cymer based lithography.

Hope this helps,

Bob
