This is another competitor to USWDA not a customer. Metricom does not use the standard wireless network - they put up their own spread-spectrum system using local terminals that they locate on telephone poles, street lights, etc. They have operations in Seattle, San Francisco and other major metro areas. Their big ticket is wireless internet service which operates at 33.6k but is moving to around 1.2 M bs in the near future. Different game entirely.

Metricom is partialy funded by Paul Allen of Microsoft fame. This is the second major, well financed competitor that I know of that is competing against USWDA. The other is a major digital wireless equipment supplier - some posts about it is burried up about three weeks back.
